Battlefield 1942 Multiplayer Conquest Map for Desert Combat Mod Big MAP! WorldSize = 2048 ******************** INSTALLATION Unzip or copy the file Road_To_Basra.rfa to the folder - "EA GAMES/Battlefield 1942/Mods/DesertCombat/Archives/bf1942/levels" DO NOT PUT IN - "Mods/bf1942/Archives/bf1942/levels" - As most of this map is original and done custom from scratch (not edited from an existing one). It only needs to be in the Mods/DesertCombat address otherwise if you have a duplicate in the DesertCombat address your game might crash. It will also still work if you only have one copy in the Mods/bf1942 path but do you really want to see a DC map on your list while playing BF42? So remember, its either or but not in both. TO UNINSTALL Just Delete the file Road_To_Basra.rfa in the same folder you installed it in. ******************* MAP DESCRIPTION Road to Basra (Road_To_Basra.rfa) v.0.1 Alpha Release A Desert Combat, Conquest Map. (Unofficial) This is a composite map based on events, places, and written & broadcasted news reports about the war on Iraq. This map contains most of the land and air vehicles featured in the DC 3.0 Alpha release. Fog/Haze/Sand is moderately thick, to simulate a sand storm and minimize visivility to help keep frame rate stay manageable on slower machines. Map Objectives: There are 2 permanent flag bases; The Iraqui Military Command Center, and The Coalition Staging Point Base. There are 5 strategic flag points to capture (AreaValue); An Iraqui Airfield (30), The Republican Guard Base (25), The Oil Refinery (25), Iraqui Government Building (20), and a Small Village (20) v.0.1 Alpha Release Notes and Issues: (April 24, 2003) On the load screen, the progress bar fills up then refreshes numerous times while loading. I don't know why it does this (in my machine) but it loads just as well. I'm having difficulty creating a MaterialMap file (I followed every Tutorial out there but the file still crashes the game), as for now I am using El Almein's MaterialMap. :( Map Shadows and textures need improvement and Object Lightmaps are not done. Next upgrade... For now its just straight multiplayer Conquest for DC. No Single Player mode, CTF, Co-Op, TDM, S&D, RTR, or BF1942 support. If anyone with the mapping resources, tools, time and skill would like to help further the development of this map, please contact me at nordenx@tcgweb.net. Slows or lags (momentary freeze) during flag capture or multiple vehicle spawns. Watch out for the city area's high FPS rate. Map balancing... Not done yet. ******************* RALLY Invade Iraq! Combat Terrorism at it's core! Destroy the dictator Saddam's royal army, the elite Republican Guard. Put an end to his evil regime. Control the oil refinery, secure outposts and mass forces to take over the town. Don’t forget the abandoned Iraqi airfield. ******************** SOURCES AND RESEARCH Its hard not to get influenced by various sources during this conflict. This is probably the most media covered war to date. Too many sources to list, not even worth mentioning all of them... here's some on top of my head - CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, blah, blah, blah.... Most Images are taken from the Internet from various sources. ******************* BACKGROUND March 20, 2003 U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division opens fire on Iraqi positions near Basra. March 21, 2003 U.S. and British forces seize the Faw peninsula, in southern Iraq as they drive toward Basra March 24, 2003 British forces continue to lay seize to Basra, unsure of strenght of Iraqi forces inside. March 25, 2003 British and U.S. military officials say Basra's mostly Shiite Muslim citizenry is rising up against the ruling party and Iraqi militiamen loyal to Saddam, but they say it is unclear how widespread the revolt was. Earlier, British officials say they plan to engage Iraqi forces in the city in risky urban warfare. March 26, 2003 British forces battle around 1,000 Iraqi troops in Basra and aircraft strike Baath Party headquarters there. Coalition forces attack an Iraqi armored convoy leaving the area, according to a British spokesman. British trucks carrying humanitarian aid reach the port of Umm Qasr from Kuwai March 27, 2003 British forces destroy a column of 20 Iraqi tanks and armored vehicles heading south from Basra on a mission to attack coalition forces, then destroy 14 more tanks apparently seeking to break free to the south March 29, 2003 U.S. warplanes destroy a building in Basra where U.S. Central Command says 200 Iraqi terror squad members were meeting. March 30, 2003 Allied airstrikes continue to pound Baghdad. Meanwhile in Basra, Iraqi paramilitaries hold on to the center of the southern city while they battle British forces. April 6, 2003 Coalition airstrikes on Basra target the home of Saddam’s adviser, “Chemical Ali,” who oversaw the use of poison gas against Kurdish villagers in 1988. The bombing kills his bodyguard. April 7, 2003 Ali Hassan al-Majid, dubbed “Chemical Ali” by opponents of the Iraqi regime for ordering a 1988 poison gas attack that killed thousands of Kurds, was found dead, a British official says. April 8, 2003 Looting in Basra is rampant as British forces move through the city. British appoint a local sheik as the city’s leader. April 14, 2003 Iraqi police return to patrols with British troops in Basra. April 16, 2003 Life begins to return to normal in Basra even as fires burn and clean water remains unavailable to many city residents. ******************* TECHNICAL Created and Tested on BF1942 latest patch and Desert Combat 3.0 latest as of April, 5 2003. Runs smooth on my 1.50 GHz processors with 260 MB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 500 Some slowdown and lag during flag capture and near the city or around complex modeled vehicles such as the helicopters. Not my fault on the later issue really, the DC team is still working on optimizing those vehicle models. (as of April 24, 2003) ******************* LEGAL This is a Full Custom Battlefield 1942 Map/Level for Desert Combat Mod.
