The purpose of the project is to create a modular game engine with which classic 2.5d first person shooters such as DOOM, Heretic and Hexen can be played. We aim to retain the same feel as the original games but leverage modern techniques such as 3D graphics and client/server networking. A lot of emphasis is placed on good-looking graphics.
Doomsday Engine is an enhanced DOOM source port for Windows, Mac OS X, and various Unix platforms. It is based on the source code of id Software's DOOM and Raven Software's Heretic and Hexen.
