It always bothered me that after the 2010/Episode 2 the weapons didn't shine anymore in the dark. Now perhaps for some weapons it was a good thing, but for me, it was just too annoying, so I decided to fix that. Basically, what Valve disabled (and I re-enabled + improved) was the env_map.
This allows now the weapons to ,,shine,, in the dark again, when their not in direct light (if you look at them in direct sunlight or under/near a light source, you won't noticed it, because the env_map makes it's appearance only in the dark.
Also, certain weapons lacked any env_maps, such as the AR2, which really shouldn't, since it's made of a metal-like material, which really should shine, both in the light and dark. I added the env_maps to all weapons which lacked one, and took care to not break anything.
I am aware that (maybe) many people will consider this work cheap. Perhaps it is true, since I only edited the vanilla weapons (or better said their .vmf), so it is bound to see unsatisfied/annoyed people.
I did however took great care to not make them too shiny (if I didn't, they would've looked like someone just picked them up from a lake/river), just as enough to make them look nice.
This being said, if you don't understand what exactly I did, do check the images (they'll explain better than me).
