MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THIS TUTORIAL FIRST TO EXTRACT .VPK, OR YOU MAY END UP WITH PINK/BLACK TEXTURES!!! http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/7355
Once you have done that, put the extracted files into your Left 4 Dead folder, this will eliminate the problem with pink and black textures.
This skin was made to look like this gun:
Just pointing that out, so people know it isn't just some random idea I had.
This is my first attempt at skinning, I have messed around with skins before, but never created anything I thought was good enough to release to the public. Please let me know what you think of it, and what can be improved.
I have included 2 separate files, 1 with the light on the pistol, and one that hacks the light off of the pistol. You can either use the files I provided for the .vpk, or follow the instructions below. Make sure you use the right files if you want or do not want the light on there if you do the instuctions below.
Thanks, enjoy :)
How to install
If this is the only skin you are using, you can just use the files I included in the .rar, if not follow the instructions below:
1) Go to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead and put the materials folder in there.
2) Now, look for "whitelist.cfg" and add "add" "materials/models/..." under the line // Additional files/directories to allow. Be to make a copy of this in case something goes wrong.
3) Now, look for pak01_dir.vpk in the same folder. Open it using Notepad ++ to open it. Make sure you backup the original pak01_dir.vpk file.
4) When you opened up pak01_dir.vpk with Notepad++, press Ctrl+F to find this line:
Replace "V_Pistol_Reference" with "V_Pistol_Reference2" and save. There should be 2 of these lines you find, you have to replace both.
If you don't want the LAM(in simple terms the flashlight) on it, add these 2 lines after the $basetexture line, make sure to do it at both $basetexture lines like stated above.:
