Q: What is this?
A: This is a complete remake of an old mod (on my now inaccessible account), that is much more accurate, and uses models instead of textures, allowing for a more thorough fix, and reskin compatibility.
Q: What was wrong with the old one?
A: I was way off. I made the hands too dark and orange and thought it was good. Plus, there was still a small trace of the mid-hand skin tone change issue which bothered the Hell out of me. Also the old one didn't have reskin compatibility.
Q: What's new with this version?
A: Use of models for reskin support, more accurate coloring, and absolutely no trace of the mid-hand skin tone change issue like the previous version.
Q: Wasn't the previous version the final version?
A: Yes, which is why I decided to name this mod the 2015 Redux.
Q: Why is it in Beta?
A: The player model hands are buggy; in the screenshot you can see the glitch underneath the thumb, in addition the rings have a strange glow around them that I don't know how to fix, as well as the lack of LODs for the player model.
Q: How would this mod come out of Beta?
A: If someone were to redo the player model following the same general process below, and making LODs, and generally having a better idea of what they're doing.
Q: Wait, so you're LolzMan1325?
A: Was, until one day I tried to log in and I vaguely remembered legitimately throwing my login information away in the trash months ago. I didn't change my email of that account as well, so if I tried to get new login information, it would go to the email that'd gotten hijacked long ago.
DETAILS ON FIXING THE PLAYER MODEL
What I did was on Nick's model, I erased his original hands (as much as I could), then I took Ellis' model and erased all but his hands, separated his hands into 2 separate blender files, imported each hand, and finally repositioned them to fit inside Nick's rings.
Basically, I put Ellis' hands in place of Nick's.
The issue, however, is that the space underneath the new thumb looks glitched and messy, and the space around the rings glow for some reason, and--as the screenshots detail--the model lacks LODs, which I would like to have for continuity reasons.
If you, dear reader, decide you want to fix this, you're going to have to do it entirely on your own. I used Blender for modeling (with the Source Engine Tools plugin) and Crowbar for decompiling and compiling the model. In order to allow this mod to work with any reskin, please leave Nick's new hands pointing to Ellis' vmt file, "mechanic_body_color".
If you do end up fixing it, please send the finished files to me via Private Message with Mediafire, DropBox, or something similar. All I can give as repayment for your efforts is crediting you on this mod for completing it and bringing it out of beta. Apologies to those who aren't altruistic, but I'm poor.
