And here it is folks, a Team Fortress 2 Ported model replacement!

So there is a lot of technical stuff I need to place here, and, unlike the project page this mod used to be on, THE FOLLOWING IS A MUST READ!

MUST-READ

For the most part, the model is finished, except for a few areas.

First off, you may notice the lack of cigarette as well as the lack of facial movement. I removed the cigarette due to complications I was having with the model deforming whenever I messed with the head. Hell, I had to turn his head completely around in Blender in order for the model to appear right in-game. The side effect to that is that the head turns 180 degrees when it ragdolls. Basically Snake dies from neck snapping no matter how he actually died.

Also there is the issue of mild deformities in various places on the model. As many of you TF2 players know, the characters of Team Fortress have... strange proportions. Take Spy for example. He has a lanky frame and long fingers as well as largish feet. Snake on the other hand has more average proportions. At first, I had the problem of the hands coming detached and major leg issues, but then I resized some parts of the model, moved some parts around, and PRESTO! it started resembling something of an actual port.

Another major issue is Valve's handling of mods. The majority of servers don't support model replacements, so if you were to join a server, you ended up with an invisible model with only the cosmetics visible. This bugs the entire game and you will need to exit the game entirely in order to have the model be visible again. This affects ALL of the game. You join a non-compatible server, and even leaving the server will bug out the custom model.

Ah yes, almost forgot. The model supports some cosmetics. If Snake was bald, it would be completely fine for hats, but his hair clips through most hats. Any "suit" item will just be pasted onto the sneaking suit. Helmets, badges, the canteen, and other various cosmetics all work fine (I'll post some screenshots of these later).

Known Servers that won't support the mod:

  • Official/Valve Servers
  • Skial
  • List to be updated

tl;dr Only some servers will be compatible. Joining a server that doesn't support mods like this will cause the model to bug out, which is fixable by restarting your game.
